This is the central page for my chronicles of adventures along the Loyalsock Trail.
The trail is a fairly difficult hike of nearly 60 miles through north-central Pennsylvania. It gets its name from the Loyalsock Creek, through whose basin it runs.
Any number of Internet sources will tell you that Loyalsock Creek's name is derived from the Indian phrase "Lawi-saquick", which means "middle creek", because it is the middle of three creeks which flow into the Susquehanna. Nobody ever says which Native Americans gave it this name. Presumably it was one of the Algonquian or Iroquois tribes.
Part 1, miles 0 to 4, hiked Aug. 2018.
Part 2, miles 4 to 9, hiked Sep. 2018.
Part 3, miles 9 to 13, hiked Oct. 2018.
Part 4, miles 13 to 17, hiked Apr. 2019.
Part 5, miles 17 to 23, hiked Jun. 2019.
The trail is maintained by the Alpine Club of Williamsport, who publish the standard Trail Guide.
A family of hikers has also put together an illustrated survey of the trail.
